Create Set Extensions and Projections with Modern Matte Painting Techniques

The class introduces the student to the world of 2D/3D, or 2.5D, Matte Painting. Focusing on Matte Painting set extensions, projections and compositing setup, we address a variety of common production shots where the matte artist must build 3D assets for layout and projection. While historically matte painting has been a primarily 2D job, originally as real paintings on glass, to predominantly Photoshop work, today’s matte painters are expected to utilize 3D tools into their pipeline, such as Maya or 3ds Max. When done with the class you will feel comfortable enough to deal with a majority of Matte Painting challenges.
