Study Drawing the Clothed Figure for Animation
This course will explore drawing as it pertains specifically to animation. Drawing a fully realized character in costume - its infinite positions, range of motion, and multiple perspectives - is a key function of the professional animator. A feeling for life and movement are important in drawing the costumed figure for animation and character design. The student will learn to analyze the figure with special emphasis on understanding the anatomical form beneath the costume as well as attitude and storytelling movement.
The course will provide a strong foundation in figure construction, use of available landmarks, and proportion. Gesture, volume, perspective, and foreshortening are used to portray movement, personality, expression, and storytelling. Assignments, both in and outside of class, will expose students to the drawing problems that animators and character designers face on a daily basis.
